Mr. Grund is a founder and managing shareholder of Grund • Dagner, P.C. Licensed in Colorado and Wyoming, he practices throughout the Rocky Mountain region, specializing in the defense of complex and multi-district litigation and emphasizing product liability, recreational liability, common-carrier and general aviation law, hospital liability, malpractice, and insurance law. Mr. Grund is an appointed member of the Colorado Supreme Court Committee on Civil Pattern Jury Instructions (since 1987) and chairs the subcommittee responsible for Product Liability, Professional Malpractice and Insurance Bad Faith. He is co-author of the four-volume Personal Injury Practice — Torts and Insurance (West Group 2d ed. 2000), contributed three chapters to Colorado Courtroom Handbook for Civil Trials, (2d ed. CLE in Colo., Inc. 1998; Supp. 2001, 2006, 2008 & 2010), has authored the "Torts" chapter for the CBA's Annual Survey of Colorado Law for many years, and has been a frequent presenter at legal seminars involving all aspects of tort liability and insurance and trial law. He also serves as an expert witness in the fields of insurance and bad faith, legal malpractice, and attorney-fee litigation. Mr. Grund has been peer-selected for the Colorado SuperLawyers in the Personal Injury Defense: General category, and for The Best Lawyers in America, in the Insurance Law Specialty. In 2001, CDLA created the John W. Grund Excellence in Leadership Award, naming Mr. Grund as its first recipient.
Mr. Grund began his legal career clerking for The Honorable Fred M. Winner, Chief Judge for United States District Court for the District of Colorado. He has been a partner in the Denver firms of Tilly & Graves, P.C. (1978-1991), Montgomery, Green, Jarvis, Kolodny & Markusson, P.C. (1991-1996), and Grund & Breslau, P.C. (1996-2003).
